Why is a Data Centre important?

Our everyday lives of work and leisure rely more and more heavily on being online and connected to content and digital services, via mobile phones, tablets and laptops. To make that happen, we don’t only need high quality fibre and wireless networks, but the network nodes where the content and digital services ‘live’. These nodes need to be as close as possible to those consume the content and services. That is where regional Data Centres like the Digital Delta, come in.

The Digital Delta will house a regional Internet Exchange Point (IXP) where local and international, fixed and wireless network operators, and local service providers will be able to peer and interconnect their networks. Such IXPs have the effect of making the routing of local and international traffic faster and more efficient. Ultimately this has the effect of improving data speeds and user experience as well as reducing costs.

Sales consultants are available to assist you in determining how best your colocation needs can be fulfilled and provide you with a quote. You are able to reserve space in the Digital Delta now.

What is Uptime Institute?

The Uptime Institute is an internationally recognized data centre certification body. Uptime Institute’s Tier Standard is the globally recognized standard for data centre reliability and overall performance. It allows for various levels of performance to be chosen based on the intended applications and business parameters associated with those applications. The Uptime Institute has over 2,500 Tier Certifications issued in over 110 countries around the globe, and is widely considered *the* industry standard for Design, Construction, and on-going Operations.

Simplistically, it is a high-quality hotel for computer servers, catering for their every need, so they can available 24x7 to serve up digital services and content. The technicalities are a bit more complex. To achieve Tier III status, the design, construction and operations of the data centre need to satisfy the Uptime Institute’s engineers that the data centre is ‘concurrently maintainable’. That means that any element of the complex systems that provide power and cooling can be removed, undergo maintenance and be returned to service, without impacting the server racks collocated within the data centre.
